Chakra's (the 7 brightly coloured balls in the diagram above) are our intake centres for the Universal Energy we have flowing through us. The energy taken in goes to organs closest to that chakra .The energy is very important for proper functioning of organs. If a chakra stops functioning the intake of energy will be disturbed and so will the organs in the area. If left for long in a dysfunctional state that part of the body will weaken and disease will occur. Reiki works through the chakras to balance the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional.

The ability to channel Reiki is acquired when it is transferred to the student by what is called an attunement process that is part of every Reiki course. The ability to call upon Reiki energy is yours for as long as you live after the attunement process, it doesn't wear off or wear out.

The attunement process creates a Reiki channel through which Reiki can flow. When one simply thinks of giving Reiki healing it will be activated. The reiki energy will then be drawn into the crown chakra and from there will flow through the chakras and then down each arm streaming out through the palm chakras.

The 1st chakra (red colour) is located between the legs positioned downward toward the ground. It is related to our will to live. It supplies energy to our spinal column, adrenals and kidneys.

The 2nd chakra (orange colour) is located just above the pubic bone and has entrances both in the front and back of body. It is related to our sexuality. Supplies our sexual organs and immune system.

The 3rd chakra (yellow colour) is located in the solar plexus and has entrances in both front and back of body. It is related to our intuition, who we are in the universe, how we connect to others and how we take care of ourselves. Supplies stomach, liver, gall bladder, spleen and nervous system with energy.

The 4th chakra (green colour) is located in the heart area. It is related to love and will and opens in both the front and back of body. Through it we sense love. The front is related to love and the back chakra to will. It brings energy to the heart, circulatory system, and upper back.

The 5th chakra (blue)is located in the throat area and has openings in both the front and back of body. It is associated with our sense of hearing, smell, taste. Supplies energy to bronchi, lungs. It's related to giving and receiving and telling our truth.

The 6th chakra (violet colour) located in front and back around the forehead. Supplying energy to lower brain, pituitary, eye, ears, nose and nervous system. Related to conceptual understanding and carrying our ideas in procession to accomplish them.

The 7th and final chakra (white colour) one location at the top of the head (crown) radiating outward to the sky. Supplies energy to upper brain and the eye. It is how we get our "direct knowing" and integrating ourselves with spirituality.

In general the front chakra's are said to do with the function of our emotions, the chakra's in the back of body our will and the head chakra's to our reasoning function. Any disruption and blocks disrupts our energy and causes "dis-ease".
