REIKI HAND POSITIONS

Many healers work intuitively - allowing their hands to do the work as they allow the receivers body to direct the healing energies. How do you know where a problem area is? Before you place your hands in the first position, scan the recipient's body. Scanning is done by moving your hand back and forth across the body, feeling for any difference in sensation.

While doing the Reiki hand positions on a person it is sometimes possible to feel sensations such as heat, coldness, pulsing or tingling or there can be a total absence of any sensations. The person experiencing the Reiki treatment may or may not feel the same thing the Reiki practitioner is feeling.

A complete treatment is given with the hands 2 to 4 inches from the body using the pre-established hand positions. The hands should be slightly cupped with the fingers held together and the thumbs pulled up against the hand. This positioning keeps the energy from passing between the fingers and allows you to direct it to the person you are treating.

What position is best for the person receiving a Reiki treatment? Lying down is the best position. This enables the person to be totally relaxed and better able to receive the energy. If they are totally opposed to the idea of lying down or if they're physically not able, have the person sit in a chair. Some people with bad backs can not lay on their back for long periods of time. You may want to have a pillow ready to put under their knees to take some stress off their back.

A Reiki treatment always starts at the head with the first hand position covering the forehead (third eye) and ends at the feet. Moving from one position to another should be done very gently so as not to disturb the recipient. Once the first hand is placed on the body, contact should not be broken. This can be accomplished by moving your hands one at a time, so that the practitioner is always in contact with the recipient.

While it's always recommended to do full treatments, there will be times when you're going to treat a headache, sore hand or emergency as a quick spot treatment. It is good to remember that Reiki is a full body treatment where the energy removes blockages that have been causing dis-ease. A earache may not have it's origin in the ear and you're not really healing when you act as a quick fix to remove pain. The healing comes from the full body treatment and the result of clearing blockages and balancing the body's energy.

Many healers use specific hand exercises before they begin to do the Reiki hand positions. One of the most effective is rubbing the palms of your hands together, like you would do to warm your hands up if they were cold. This is a good way to get the energy going.

In accident and other first aid situations, especially where there is a risk of shock, place one of your hands over the person's solar plexus and the other one over the adrenals on their back. Remember not to move someone who has been involved in an accident, unless you are a trained medical professional. If you are a second degree practitioner, you can always send the person Reiki energy by using the distant healing technique.

The Reiki Practitioner stands/sits behind the persons head for Positions 1 to 4 , positions 5 to 10 are done from either side of the persons. Stand/sit at the bottom of the table for position 11, the feet. Then ask the person to turn over on their stomach and do positions 5 to 10 on the back of the person (stand to either side of the person). Before you remove your hands from the person, you can smooth their energy within their Aura , run both hands a few inches over the body from head to toe.
